What has been your favorite memory in Alpha Chi?
One of my favorite memories in Alpha Chi happened last spring. My big (Blaze love you) is from Dallas, Texas and she was a Debutante for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Her debutante ball was in February and a bunch of us A Chi O’s flew out to Dallas to support her! Not only did the ball make me feel like I was in an episode of Gossip Girl, but roaming around Dallas and supporting my big with a bunch of my sisters is a memory I’m never going to forget.
What did you do this summer?
This summer I studied abroad in Cape Town, South Africa with a company called LeadAbroad! While there I took classes in leadership, got the opportunity to work with children and families in a local township as well as go on some crazy adventures like sky diving, great white shark cage diving, bungee-jumping, go on an elephant experience and a safari! I also worked as a Museum Guide for the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL with Amy Maynard (a fellow Alpha Chi). It’s a fun place to visit if you have never been, also the reason Huntsville is known as the Rocket City, no big deal. Also this summer I performed in a musical, In theHeights, as a Featured Dancer.
What was your favorite experience from your trip?
I loved everything about the trip. All thepeople I met on the trip have truly impacted me (once you jump out of a plane with someone that friendship is pretty much eternal). The love and support I was surrounded with while I was there, from the staff, to the fellow students, and from the locals, touched me and opened my eyes to how the world really is. I took home with me this message of Ubutnu, which simply translates to “human kindness” and focuses on the connections people make with each other, specifically those of compassion and humanity. This is a lesson I have kept with me and I incorporate back into my day-to-day life here at Auburn. This trip also encouraged me to take more chances. I used to play it safe all the time, but now after jumping out of a plane at 9,000ft, diving in a cage surrounded by great white sharks and bungee jumping off the tallest bungee bridge in the world, I believe there is nothing I can’t do. There are just so many experiences that I’ve learned from and never will forget from this trip.
What is your favorite Auburn tradition?
ROLLING THE TREES AT TOOMER'S CORNER! After an Auburn win (which is sometimes rare and far between), there is nothing like strolling down Toomer's Corner seeing the students, alumni and family having the time of their lives rolling the trees. I honestly think it’s better than Christmas. We don’t get much snow here in Alabama, so the rolling of the trees will have to do! I remember after the late night win against LSU I woke up one of my friends, made her get out of bed and go roll the trees with me. It was worth it.
What plans do you have for this semester?
This semester I have the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Disney College Program! I'll be living, working and taking classes at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida! I'll get to spend everyday in the parks working with Disney characters... I'm literally living out my childhood dream!
